Barbara Lynn Steele

Barbara Lynn Dean Steele, 88, of Romney, WV passed away on Sunday, February 15, 2026 at Hampshire Center, Romney, WV.

Born on May 1, 1937 in Romney, WV, she was the daughter of the late Virgil Stonebraker and Opal (Smith) Stonebraker.

Barbara graduated from Romney High School in 1955. She attended Shepherd College and taught at the WV School for the Deaf.

She married Howard Dean in 1958 and they had one son, Michael, who was born in 1960. Howard died in 1961 in the explosion at ABL. She married Robert Steele in 1964.

She was preceded in death by her son, Michael Steele and her sister, Avery Kesner.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Connie L. Steele, 2 granddaughters, Lilli Sites (Earl) and their children, Katie and Logan, Cassandra Williamson (Brad) and their children, Alexis, Bradley and Allyssa; a sister, Zanna Stonebraker, and several nieces and nephews.

Barbara was a member of St. Stephens Episcopal Church where she served as a licensed Lay reader, Lay leader, Eucharistic visitor and a member of the St. Luke the Physician Healing Ministry.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at 2:00 P.M. at St Stephen's Episcopal Church, 310 East Main St., Romney, WV with Rev. Warren Frederick officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior. Interment will be in Ebenezer Cemetery, Romney, WV.

In leiu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Romney, WV.
