Barbara Stewart Obituary

Barbara June Stewart, age 93, passed away peacefully surrounded by family members Sunday, July 14, 2024, at The Manor at Elfindale in Springfield. Barbara was born in Foose, Missouri, to Roma and Viola (Morris) Roweton on Feb. 7, 1931.
She graduated in 1949 from Halfway High School, Halfway. She married Standley Stewart Oct. 27, 1949. They had three daughters, Kathy, Pam, and Bev. Barbara worked selling fabric at Northwest Fabrics while living in Kansas City. She spent much of her life caring for others. First raising her daughters and later caring for both her and Standley's aging parents. She enjoyed baking, quilting and loved spending time with family and friends. She was always ready for a competitive game of dominoes.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Standley; her parents, Roma and Viola; her brother, Ted; and her sister, Rowena.
She is survived by her brother Sid (Jane) Roweton; and sister, Shirley (Jay, deceased) Farmer; daughters, Kathy (Doug) Cunio of Springfield, Pam (Rich) Kiefer of Savage, Minnesota, and Bev (Dave) Powell of Magnolia, Texas; six grandchildren, Stacy (Nick), Lindsey (Michael), Jesse (Brenda), Josh (Melissa), Chase (Tiffany) and Mitch (Angie); eight great-grandchildren, Sydney, Beckett, Everett, Emma, Presley, Jocelyn, Jace and Chase; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Barbara will be deeply missed but we know she is now free of pain. The family is very grateful to the nurses and staff that were so kind and provided wonderful care to her at The Manor at Elfindale and Preferred Hospice.
Visitation will be held Saturday, July 20, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m, at Walnut Lawn Funeral Home. Services will be held immediately following visitation at Walnut Lawn Funeral Home. Burial will be at Missouri Veterans Cemetery with a private ceremony Monday, July 22.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to your favorite charity.
Care has been entrusted to Walnut Lawn Funeral Home, DeGraffenreid-Wood Crematory, Springfield, Missouri.
