Barb was born in Kadoka, SD, on July 29, 1946, to Paul (Bunt) and Charlotte (Owens) Barrett. She graduated from Scotland High School in 1964 and then attended Barber College in Sioux City, IA. Barb was united in marriage to Ronald G. Suess on May 6, 1967. They made their home in Scotland, SD. Barb worked as a barber and then later as a bookkeeper for several local businesses including Scotland Creamery, Scottie Stop, Scotland Good Samaritan Center, and Scotland Locker.

Barb was very active in the community and held various offices for multiple organizations. Barb was the first woman president of the Scotland Chamber of Commerce. She was active in the Scotland Rodeo Club and managed the lunch stand for over 50 years. Barb loved the outdoors and enjoyed caring for her beautiful flowers and garden, which she graciously shared with friends and family. Barb had the heart and compassion of the Good Samaritan. She was always there when you needed her for a compassionate ear, advice, or a swift kick in the butt if that was what was needed. She truly loved her family and friends. She especially enjoyed fishing trips with Ronnie and the Suess family and of course the Barrett Golf Tournament.

Barb is survived by her husband, Ronald Suess of 56 years; her eight siblings, Rita (Tom) Fay, James (Mary Ann) Barrett, Pat Barrett, Mary (Tom) Martin, Carolyn (Larry) Johnson, David Barrett, Casey Barrett, and Pam Cokeley. Barb will be remembered by her in-laws and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Bunt and Charolette Barrett.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Friends of the Scotland Good Samaritan Society.
