Barbara June (Horton) Swinger, age 82, of Centerville, OH passed away peacefully at her residence surrounded by her family on Wednesday, July 17, 2024. Barb was born on February 28, 1942, in West Dallas, MO, she was the daughter of the late William and Max (Crowe) Horton.
Barb was an adventurist and fearless young-lady and on a serendipitous day a little over 62 years ago, she and one of her close friends took a fateful trip to her beloved Estes Park, CO. While touring the fabled village, Barb with her friend, stopped into the Wheel Bar for a libation. This is when the fireworks happened! The bartender was a young-gentlemen by the name of Benjamin “Ben” Swinger. Barb would laugh and say that her Ben was her “barTENder” and she was his “Bar-Fly!” This short, however, intense love affair led them into eternal matrimony on December 23, 1962. Throughout their married life, Ben and Barb maintained and spent many a beautiful summer’s seasons in Estes Park where they created wonderful memories with their family.
During her working career, Barb demonstrated a tireless work ethic coupled with her focus and drive which made her a perfect fit as Manager of Group Travel, Global Meetings & Events for NCR. Her career would take her travels all over the world as she coordinated these major and important customer relations and employee performance celebration events that included events at the Atlanta and Sydney Olympics and destinations to Paris, London, France, Barcelona, Dubai, Hawaii and Stockholm just to mention a few of the exciting venues. This exciting and rewarding work adventure lasted until Barb was well into her 70’s. This wonderful experience helped Barb to be Barb, confident, fearless, focused, loyal and strong as an individual, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. This beautiful lady will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
Barb leaves behind a living legacy consisting of her loving husband Ben; daughters, Cristie (Gary) Teague of Centerville, OH and Cynthia (Tim) Gevedon of Mainville, OH; Grandsons, David Hansbarger of Lakewood, CO and Jacob Gevedon of Cincinnati, OH; granddaughters, Emily Hansbarger of Charleston, SC and Olivia (Jack Ohringer) Gevedon of Columbus, OH; special cousin, Donna Wells of Springfield, MO; and many dear friends who will miss Barb very much.
