Mrs. Barbara Cason Thigpen, age 81, beloved wife of the late Leroy Willie Thigpen, of Vidalia passed away on Saturday evening, February 10, 2024 at Oxley Park Health and Rehabilitation Center in Lyons. Her children were by her side.
Born in the Long Pond Community of Montgomery County, she was the youngest and last living of five children born to the late Tom Ellis Cason and Sarah Elizabeth Carpenter Cason. She and her siblings grew up in Uvalda, helping work on the family farm. She graduated from Montgomery County High School before working at Ailey Manufacturing as a Machine Operator. With a servant's heart; while working at Ailey Manufacturing and living at home, she also took care of family members that had become ill. In August of 1968, she married Leroy Willie Thigpen and they made their home in the Bear Creek Community where they raised their four children.
Mrs. Thigpen enjoyed and was committed to taking care of her family, helping raise her grandchildren, being involved with her church activities and her Bible study.
She had been a member of Bear Creek Baptist Church, Tabernacle Baptist Church and also attended Liberty Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents and her husband of forty six years; she is preceded in death by her siblings, Frances Willis, Thomas Franklin Cason, Gene Cason and Wallace Cason.
Mrs. Thigpen leaves behind: her children, Belinda Craven (Johnny), Charleston, SC, Danny Thigpen (Gina), Mt. Vernon, GA, Stacy Randall-Toole (Ivy), Lyons, GA, Rachel Stewart (Glynn), Lyons, GA, a special niece, Ann Absher of Alston, GA, grandchildren, Ashley Wilson, Danielle McDonald (Jason), Casey Woods (Erica), Kayla Osting (Cody), Macy Stewart (Cole), Dawson Stewart and Brody Lee Randall, great grandchildren, Briann Wilson, Gracie Leigh Woods, Lee McDonald, Emma Woods and many loved nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 in the Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with Reverend Randy McDuffie and Reverend Michael Plowman officiating.
Mrs. Thigpen will be laid to rest beside her husband in Westview Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be: Travis Absher, David Thompson, Carson Randall, Chris Palmer, Jim Sharpton, Dexter Cason, Levi Palmer and Ian Moye.
Mrs. Thigpen's family will receive friends on Monday, at the funeral home, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm or friends and family may call at the home of her daughter, Rachel Stewart.
