**Obituary for Barbara Ann Thomas (1946-2026), Affectionately Known as "MEMOMMY"**
Barbara Ann Thomas, affectionately known as "MEMOMMY" to her beloved granddaughters, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2026, in
Norfolk, VA, at the age of 79, following a short illness. Born on September 19, 1946, in
Chesapeake, VA, she was a beacon of love and strength in her community and family. Barbara's life was a testament to her unwavering faith and dedication to her loved ones. She devoted herself to creating a warm and welcoming home for her cherished husband, Charles G. "REDADDY" Thomas, her daughter Cassandra "Cassie" Carlson Haggerty, and her adoring granddaughters, Melanie and Kelley. Her home was always filled with love, comfort, and laughter-a true sanctuary for all who entered. An artist at heart, Barbara found joy in arts, crafts, and sewing, pouring her heart into every piece she created. Her creativity was boundless, and she shared her passion generously with those around her. She also found delight in bowling, participating in both mixed and ladies leagues over the years. Her summers were spent enjoying precious moments by the pool with her family and friends, her heart full of joy and gratitude for the life she led.
Barbara's faith was the cornerstone of her life. A devoted member of Raleigh Heights Baptist Church, she was baptized alongside Charlie on September 19, 1976. She expressed her love for the Lord through singing in the chancel choir and the Hallelujah Singers, often lending her voice to special parts during cantatas and events. Her involvement in various Sunday School groups reflected her commitment to her faith and community. To know Barbara was to love her. She was the most supportive wife, mother, grandmother, and friend one could hope for. Her kindness and empathy touched everyone she met, leaving an indelible mark on their hearts. Her beloved Charlie, who preceded her in death on August 6, 2022, and her parents, Myrtle Inez Turner and Charles Wilson Turner, welcome her into eternity.
Barbara is survived by her loving daughter Cassandra "Cassie" Carlson Haggerty and her husband David, of Chesterfield Co., VA, and her treasured granddaughters Melanie Campbell and her husband Christopher, also of Chesterfield Co., VA, and Kelley Carlson of Henrico Co., VA-the apples of her eye.
