George Stanley Lee, a beloved brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2026, in
Chesapeake, Virginia, at the age of 76. He was born on November 26, 1949, in
Norfolk, Virginia. Stanley was a graduate of Mattamuskeet High School, Class of 1969. In his younger years, he worked as a farmer in Hyde County, North Carolina. During those years, he developed a love for the land and a deep appreciation for hard work. Among his many interests, Stanley loved farming, fishing, and spending time with his dog, Snapper - all of which brought him great joy and peace. After his years in farming, he moved to
Chesapeake, Virginia, and began a career as a truck driver for Mancon, where he eventually retired. A true comedian at heart, Stanley's sense of humor, joy, and kind spirit brought happiness to those around him, and he will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched. He also attended Southside Baptist Church in
Chesapeake, Virginia, where he cherished the sense of community and fellowship. Stanley always held a special place in his heart for his family. The highlight of his day was spending time with his favorite little people: Charlotte, Ava, Abby Lane, Brooklyn, and Wyatt. Another way he spent his time was enjoying the company of his best friend, David Harper. Though he never had children of his own, those he held close loved him dearly in return.
Stanley was preceded in death by his parents, Jean and Thomas O'Neal and his father, George Fitzhugh Lee, Jr. He is survived by his sisters: Sandra Lee Westmoreland (Mikell) of Leesburg, Georgia, Phyllis Lee Sawyer of Scranton, North Carolina, and Allison Potter (Kenny) of Swan Quarter, North Carolina. Stanley will be fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, and special cousins. The family would like to offer their thanks to his cousins Brenda, Bonnie, Wayne, John, and their families for their love and support.
Though Stanley has left this world, his legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will endure in the hearts of all who knew him. May he rest in eternal peace.
A Celebration of Stanley's life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Soule Cemetery, located at 20688 US Highway 264 in Swan Quarter, NC.
