Leah Henry Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by H.D Oliver Funeral Apartments, Inc. - Laskin Road Chapel on Mar. 12, 2026.
Leah Reed Henry, of Chesapeake, passed away peacefully on March 8. 2026 at the age of 78. She was born in Virginia Beach, VA to Anne Henry (nee Jackson) and William Robert Henry, who have both preceded her in death.

Leah lived a life dedicated to public service. From her many years working for Portsmouth Social Services to her many years volunteering for the Virginia State Police, Chesapeake Regional Hospital and St Paul's United Methodist Church, she truly loved helping others.

She is survived by her brother, William R. Henry, Jr., her niece, Denise J. Mullen, her great niece, Morrigan Mullen, her life partner of 20 years Alan R. Baumann and their extended family of many children and grandchildren. "Grandma Leah", as she was known, was very loved and will be missed dearly by all, including her 3 cats.

Her passing, during the sacred season of Lent, invites us to remember that this is a time when Christians reflect on Jesus carrying the cross and the burdens of the world, trusting that the path through suffering ultimately leads to eternal life. Leah carried her own cross with courage, perseverance and grace. We find comfort in believing that her cross has now been laid down, her suffering has ended and that she has entered into eternal life with peace promised by God.

Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, March 17, 2026 1PM at the Laskin Rd Chapel of the H.D.Oliver Funeral Apts.
