Barbara Thornton, Age 72 of Pleasureville, passed away on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at the University of Kentucky Bluegrass Hospice Care Center. Born on Wednesday, July 8, 1953, in the coal mines of Wrigley, Tennessee, she was one of nine children born to the late Ernest Odell and Verna (Anderson) White. A Christian lady who read her bible and professed her faith, she attended Lebanon Baptist Church in Bagdad. Barbara had a big heart, and she made that her lifelong career, caregiving and sitting with the elderly. True to her Tennessee upbringing, she spent her life outdoors, hiking, camping and fishing. Her love for the outdoors extended to animals, especially her dog, Muffin, and her cats, Trixy, Kissy, Casper, and Nikki. One of her favorite past times was bead work, creating beautiful Native American pieces. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Michael Thornton; her daughter, Erica Thornton; and her sisters, Catherine Herrington and Patsy Chappell.
She is survived by her daughter, Michelle Thornton (Jeffery Downey) of Bald Knob; grandsons, TJ Cederoth of Dickson, TN, and Bryan Thornton of Bald Knob; great-grandchildren, Scarlet, Paisley, and Micka; sisters, Judy Green (Billy) of Centerville, TN, Delois White of Locust Grove, TN, Darlene White (Steven) of Centerville, TN, Faye White of Dickson, TN, and Beatrice Bowers (Mike) of Allensville, KY; and brother, Nelson White of Nashville, TN.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 1 PM on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at Beckley Funeral Home with Brother Jay Edington of Lebanon Baptist Church Officiating. Interment will follow at Lebanon Community Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 PM until 8 PM on Monday, September 29, 2025, at the funeral home and from 11 AM until the time of service on Tuesday. To honor Barbara’s life and her love for animals, memorial contributions may be made to the Henry/Trimble County Animal Shelter, Post Office Box 202, New Castle, Kentucky 40050. With care and professionalism, arrangements are under the direction of Beckley Funeral Home.
