It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Barbara (Barb) F. Tomaszycki, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, on January 5th, 2024, in Canton, MI.
Barb is preceded in death by her husband Francis (Frank) G. Tomaszycki whom she loved dearly, her mother Margaret (Bell) Gdaniec, and her stepfather Edward Gdaniec. Barb is survived by her children, Michelle Tomaszycki and Gregory (Dawn) Tomaszycki, and her loving grandchildren, Ryan and Colin Tomaszycki. She will always be in their hearts and prayers.
Barb was born on July 8, 1946, in Muskegon, MI, to Thomas and Margaret Bell. She graduated from high school in Detroit, MI, in 1964. She married Francis G. Tomaszycki on September 3, 1966, and they remained together until his death in 2008. Barb worked at Dun and Bradstreet as a bookkeeper for a few years after graduation then took a break from the work force to raise her two children. Later she co-owned a company with her husband, Tomas Plastics, Inc., where she worked as a bookkeeper for 17 years until she retired in 2001.
Barb was a loving and caring person who touched the lives of many with her kindness, generosity, and humor. She enjoyed spending time with her family, friends, pets, and critters. She was always there to offer support, advice, and comfort to those who needed it.
Barb enjoyed art, shopping, and traveling with her family including trips to the Caribbean and Europe. During her retirement years she enjoyed traveling the world with her husband, Frank. Barb loved animals and animals loved her. She also enjoyed feeding and caring for the wildlife friends/animals that would visit her home.
Barb was also a proud breast cancer survivor, having overcome the disease with determination and resilience. She bravely fought a long battle with dementia, which gradually robbed her of her memories and ability to communicate with loved ones. She never lost her spirit and dignity, and she inspired us all with her courage and grace.
Barb will be deeply missed by her children and all that knew and loved her.
In honor of Barbara's memory and her love for animals, contributions may be made to the Michigan Humane Society.
A memorial gathering for Barbara will take place on January 20, 2024, from 3pm until 8pm at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home in Plymouth, MI, with a memorial service starting at 7pm. All friends are welcome.
Barbara will be laid to rest at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI. with her husband, Frank, at a later date.
