Barbara Waldie Obituary

Barbara Waldron Waldie, 98, of Iowa City, IA, died peacefully, Thursday, August 28, 2025 at Oaknoll Retirement Residence.

Barbara was born on September 11,1926, in Omaha, NE, the daughter of Clement L. and Ramona (Taylor) Waldron. She was raised in the Benson section of Omaha and graduated from Benson High School. At the suggestion of her father and mother, she traveled by train, to Mills College (Oakland, CA). After one year, she transferred to the University of Nebraska and graduated in 1948. As a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, she met many lifelong friends. It was at Nebraska, she found the love of her life, William (Bill) Waldie Sr. They were united in marriage on August 12,1948 at the Omaha, Dundee Presbyterian Church.

Barbara was a homemaker and lovingly raised two children, Bill Jr. and Ann. She was a lifelong bridge player, enjoyed entertaining and watching her husband play golf. She was a member of the Omaha Junior League and volunteered at the Children's Nebraska and Methodist Hospitals in Omaha as well as Dundee Presbyterian Church.

She is survived her son, Bill Waldie Jr. (Patricia Heiden) of Iowa City, IA; son-in-law, Col. James Boelens of Little Rock, AR; two grandchildren, David (Rachel) Boelens of Rockwall, TX, and Jamie (Adan) Vazquez of Arlington, VA; four great grandchildren, Caden, Lane and Elise Boelens and Jacob Vasquez plus, several nieces and nephews.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill Sr.; daughter Ann Boelens; daughter-in-law Jane Waldie; siblings, Taylor Waldron, Clement L. Waldron Jr., and Dorothy Harrow; in-laws James and Edith Waldie, and brother-in-law Col. James Jr. (Betty) Waldie.

The family is deeply appreciative of the loving and caring staff at Oaknoll who helped make her later years memorable. No services are planned in Iowa City. A private burial will take place, at a later date, at Forest Lawn in Omaha, NE. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Oaknoll Foundation, 1 Oaknoll Court, Iowa City, IA 52246-5250.
