Barbara Calvert West, 90, of Spartanburg, SC passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 19, 2025. She was born on September 18, 1935 to the late Henry O. and Kate Gardo Calvert and was the widow of the late Max L. West.
A lifelong resident of Spartanburg, Barbara graduated from Fairforest High School and Cecil’s Business College. She was a very active member of St. James United Methodist Church, serving on many committees and developing a close-knit group of friends. Barbara was also a member of the Red Hat Society and a line dancing teacher for many years.
Barbara was a talented seamstress and gardener, often crafting and growing things to share with those she loved. She was a graceful, generous, loyal woman and the first one there if you needed a helping hand. Above all, she loved her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her sons, Mike West (Danette) and Steven West (Bianca); grandchildren, Lindsey Fisher (Drew), Annie West, and Jack West; great-grandchildren, Ally Marie, Easton Andrew, and Hazel Camryn Fisher; and brother-in-law, Buster Sexton. Barbara was predeceased by her parents, husband, and sister, Sharon Sexton.
Visitation will be 11:00-11:45 AM on Friday, November 21, 2025 at St. James United Methodist Church, 213 N Lanford Road, Spartanburg, SC 29301. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 PM, conducted by Rev. Andrew Wolfe. Burial will immediately follow in Bogansville United Methodist Church Cemetery, 4052 Buffalo-West Springs Hwy, Jonesville, SC 29353.
