Barbara was a graduate of Ashland High School and continued her education at the University of Missouri and The Ohio State University, where she was affiliated with Pi Beta Phi Sorority. A devoted member of St. Paul Episcopal Church in Norwalk, she served as a Sunday School teacher and remained active in her faith community throughout her life.

Barbara was also a dedicated member and past president of the Firelands Garden Club, as well as a member of the Firelands Garden Council, Firelands Historical Society (where she was a life member), Bridge Club, and Tuesday Reading Club.
Barbara found great joy in sewing, gardening, and cooking for her family. She had a deep love of music, especially jazz. Above all, she cherished her role as a mother and grandmother. She delighted in attending her family’s activities and especially treasured time spent together at the family cottage on Lake Erie during the summer months.
She is survived by her children, Mary L. Vincent, William R. (Connie) Young, and Elizabeth Ann Ruby; her grandchildren, Kendall and Michael Vincent; Scott and Jim Young; Ann, Lisa, and Ryan Ruby; 11 great-grandchildren; and her brother, Frank R. Beer.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Stephen Young, in 2005, and her sister, Carolyn Beer.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at Walker-Eastman-Heydinger Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, beginning at 12:00 p.m. (Noon) until the start of the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. with burial to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
