Our precious mom and grandma, Barbra Cain, went to be with Jesus on September 2, 2025.

Barbra Jean Recer Cain was born on March 15, 1949 in Granite, OK to Ethel Toland and Elmer Recer. She spent most of her childhood in Garland, TX, where she grew up with her younger sisters, Patricia and Donna. She graduated from Garland High School in 1967 and married David Cain that same year. They went on to have two daughters, Heather and Christina. They moved to Kaufman, TX in 1979. She earned her Bachelor’s in Education from East Texas State University in 1988 and went on to teach 2nd grade in Kaufman and Crandall for nearly 20 years. She continued to tutor students privately during her retirement. She passed away surrounded by her family on September 2, 2025.

Barbra was known by many names - Barb, Mama, Ms. Cain, Grom, Grommy, Moggy - and loved by all who knew her. She was a lifelong learner and shared her love of learning with the hundreds of students she taught over the years and any who crossed her path. In her retirement, she continued to learn and create - piecing quilts, playing the piano, and teaching herself to machine-embroider, creating many beautiful pieces for those she loved.

She loved spending time in her home and enjoying the beauty of her property. She adored watching birds through her bird-feeder cameras and spending time with her dog, Sophie, who was her best friend. She also spent many hours studying her Bible for understanding and comfort. She was eager to stay involved in her granddaughters’ hobbies and lives - tracking Caitlyn’s adventures overseas, discussing lesson plans with Grace, and visiting Addie in Colorado as long as she could travel.

Barbra was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her sister, Patricia. She is survived by her sister, Donna Perry and husband Danny; her daughters, Heather Parsons and Christina Whitney; her granddaughters, Caitlyn Parsons, Grace Parsons, and Adeline Whitney; her niece, Brandi McMillan and her sons, Maddox and Maddon; and many other loved ones.

We miss her deeply, but take comfort in knowing that she is breathing easily now and able to walk and run in Heaven.
