Barney L. Barnhart, 76, of Spokane Valley, WA, passed away unexpectedly on November 6, 2025. Born in Spokane to D.J. and Dortha Mae Barnhart, he spent the majority of his adult life in the Spokane Valley. As a young man, Barney served in the United States Air Force, including a tour in Vietnam.
Barney married his first love, Nancy Marie Barnhart, in 1972, and together they raised three children until Nancy's passing in 1994. In time, Barney found a second chance at love with Jeanne Aurora Rice, with whom he shared over 20 years of companionship and joy.
He was a proud member of Advent Lutheran Church and was known as a quiet giver-often offering anonymous support to causes benefiting children and animals.
Barney is survived by his daughter, SuAn, and her husband, Beau, whom he considered a son; his son, Shad, and his wife, Davelle; and his cherished grandchildren, Alexandra, Jacob, and Nicholas. He is also survived by his niece Cheryl and nephew Scott, along with their children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Ann; his beloved wife, Nancy; his longtime life partner, Jeanne; and his son, Shane.
Barney's passing leaves an unfillable space in the hearts of his family, friends, and the many patrons who became like family through Bolo's. His legacy of laughter, kindness, faith, and generosity will continue to live on in all who knew and loved him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, December 13th at Bolo's Bar & Grill, which he faithfully owned and operated for more than two decades. in the Spokane Valley with the time to be announced. All are welcome to join in honoring and remembering Barney. The family would like to express their deepest and most heartfelt gratitude to Sebrell Funeral Home in Ridgeland, MS, and Heritage Funeral Home in Spokane, WA, for their extraordinary compassion and care. Both funeral homes went above and beyond to ensure Barney was treated with dignity, respect, and kindness. We will be forever grateful for the gentleness, guidance, and seamless coordination they provided during such a difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barney's name to the Spokane Humane Society, Shriners Children's Hospital, or the American Cancer Society.
