Barney Ray (Harris) Hurd, 67, of
Beloit, Wisconsin, passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2026.
Barney was born in Dermott, Arkansas on Thursday, April 17, 1958, the son of Louis Hurd Sr, and Earlene Jones. Barney grew up in Dermott and
McGehee, Arkansas. While in high school Barney met love of his life, Deatrice Lattimore. They had been together for 46 years. After moving from Arkansas to Beloit, Barney graduated from Blackhawk Technical College.
Barney had a love for God at an early age. In 1969, he was baptized at Isaac's MB Church in McGhee, Arkansas. Barney had a good sense of humor, a beautiful smile, and was always ready to tell a good joke. Barney was loved by everyone he came in contact with. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and helping his fellow community members. Barney enjoyed fishing, cooking, and grilling. Barney studied with Jehovah's Witnesses. His goal was to become one of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Barney was employed for more than 35 years at Beloit Corporation in
Beloit, Wisconsin. After retiring he continued working at Hormel Foods, Kerry Ingredients, and The Merrill Community Center all in
Beloit, Wisconsin.
Barney is survived by his wife of 46 years, Deatrice Hurd of
Beloit, Wisconsin; sons, Barney Lattimore, and Tramaine Harris both of
Beloit, Wisconsin; daughters, Latronda Lattimore, and Latria Harris both of
Beloit, Wisconsin; brothers, Pastor Charles (Anita) Jones, Pastor Bonnie (Tolise) Harris, Jerry (Mary) Harris all of
Beloit, Wisconsin, Tracy Harris of Arlington, Texas, Eric (Tifphany) Harris of Kenya, Africa, Marcus Harris of
Beloit, Wisconsin, and Ronald Hurd of Little Rock, Arkansas; sisters, Margaret (Bruce) Rhea of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Glenda Faye Hurd of Harbor City, California, Barbara Harris of St. Louis, Missouri, Brenda (Larry) Best, and Marilyn (Eligha) Boatner all of
Beloit, Wisconsin, and Jackie (Stephen) Donald of Toledo, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 3 uncles, 2 aunts, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends including a special cousin, Bobby Ray Hudson; and special friends, Robert Jones, Marvia McDonald, Joe Davis, Darrell Stone, Tom Dunkin, J.T. Goodwin, and Willie Brown. He was preceded in death by his fathers, Louis Hurd Sr, and Bonnie D. Harris Sr; mother, Earlene Harris; brother, Louis Hurd Jr; sister, Maxine Lawson; and a granddaughter, Serenity Polk.
Visitation is 10:00 a.m. followed by a celebration of life at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at New Zion Baptist Church, 1905 Mound Avenue,
Beloit, Wisconsin 53511. Committal at Eastlawn Cemetery in
