Johnny Hurd Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Whiting's Funeral Home - Williamsburg on Mar. 16, 2026.
Johnny Hurd, affectionately known as "John", was born on November 14, 1945, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He peacefully departed this life on February 27, 2026, at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, Virginia.

John proudly and honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps. After his service, he built a long and successful career in car sales. John spent many years working at Casey's Imports until his well-deserved retirement. Cars were more than just his profession-they were his passion. He truly loved automobiles and enjoyed sharing that passion with others.

In June 1985, John married the love of his life, Patricia La'vonne Scales. Together, they built a life centered on love, family, and lasting memories. From their union, they shared two children, Calvin Hurd and Lovonne Hurd. Through his marriage to Patricia, John also became a devoted father to her three children, Remone Scales, Lateef Scales, and Cheron Scales-Johnson, whom he loved and raised as his own. John was also the proud father of two daughters, Tai Ford and Tiffany Lee.

John cherished spending time with his family. One of his favorite pastimes was taking long drives with his beloved wife. He was a proud grandfather of nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. His youngest granddaughter, Nuriann Patricia Hurd, held a special place in his heart. In his later years, Nuri became a bright light in his life and inspired him to continue striving to live a healthier life.

After the passing of his mother, John and his brother, Patrick Hurd, were raised by his sister, Erlean, and her husband, Calvin, whom John lovingly considered his father.

John was preceded in death by his brother, Patrick Hurd.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Patricia La'vonne Hurd; his children, Calvin Hurd, Lovonne Hurd, Remone Scales, Lateef Scales, Cheron Scales-Johnson, Tai Ford, and Tiffany Lee; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a host of extended family members, and friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.

John will always be remembered for his love of family, his dedication to his work, his passion for cars, and the many memories he created with those who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

A service to celebrate John's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at Whiting's Funeral Home, with a viewing beginning at 10:00 a.m. Military honors will be rendered at this service. Iterment will be at a later date at Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia.
