John Hurd Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by John Flynn Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. on Mar. 18, 2026.
John Hurd, 91, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2026, at the Ridgewood of St Paul's in Greenville, PA, leaving behind a life marked by service, curiosity, faith, and deep appreciation for family.

Born on May 1, 1934, in Mahaffey, PA, John was the son of George and Naomi Hurd.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army for two years during the Korean War. For 34 years, he dedicated his career to NASA, contributing to a legacy of exploration and innovation that reflected his curiosity and forward-thinking spirit.

Even beyond his work, he was always drawn to discovery-whether through traveling to new places, skiing down mountain slopes, or simply enjoying the beauty of the outdoors he loved so much. He was always eager to experience new places and perspectives.

A man of the Lord, his faith was a guiding force throughout his life, offering strength, compassion, and quiet wisdom to those around him. He found joy in both the grandeur of nature and the simple pleasure of keeping up with the latest gadgets, always eager to learn and engage with the world around him.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Edna Jane Hurd, whose memory he carried with him always. He is survived by his two daughters Debby (Carey) Cowell and Patty (Todd) Glasgow, four grandchildren Aaron, Gina, Chris and Jennifer, and six great-grandchildren, all of whom carry forward his legacy of curiosity, strength, and faith.

John will be remembered for his steady presence, adventurous spirit, and his enduring strength. No services are being held at this time.
