James Lerch Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sly Family Funeral Home on Mar. 18, 2026.
James Thomas "Tom" Lerch, born November 8, 1937, went home to be with the Lord on March 15, 2026, at the age of 88.

Tom is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Beth (Jerry) Elliott, along with their 10 children and 18 grandchildren; and Kathy Lasich, along with her 8 children and 14 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marilyn Jo Lerch, with whom he shared 47 years of marriage, and more recently by Becky Janow of Texas.

Tom grew up in Lakewood, Ohio, and later moved with his family to "The Farm" in Greenville, Pennsylvania. He graduated from high school and went on to earn his Bachelor of Science in Education from Thiel College, followed by his master's degree from Kent State University.

He dedicated his professional life to education, serving as a social studies teacher at Chagrin Falls High School, where he made a lasting impact on many students. Beyond the classroom, Tom had a passion for cars-especially his Falcon-and faithfully served others as a hospital chaplain in Ohio and Plano, Texas.

A man of deep faith, Tom attended several churches over the years, including Mapleview, Cornerstone, and most recently Discovery Fellowship.

Tom lived a full and meaningful life, marked by his love for family, his commitment to service, and his enduring faith.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Restoration Chapel in Burton, Ohio. All are welcome to attend, with light refreshments to follow.
