Stephen "Steve" Kimes, born August 16, 1953, in
Alliance, Ohio, passed away surrounded by the love of his family. Steve spent most of his life in Alliance, where he built deep roots in the community alongside his beloved wife, Jane. The two were married on February 24, 1973, and shared 53 years together. Following retirement, Steve and Jane moved to
Chesapeake, Virginia, where they continued to enjoy life together.
Steve was an outdoorsman at heart. He loved hunting and fishing with friends throughout the years and found great joy spending time outdoors. He also enjoyed snow skiing in the winter and boating in the summer months, making many cherished memories with his family on the water.
Steve dedicated much of his life to serving both his community and his profession. He owned and operated the Dairy Kool Restaurant, a local staple, and later served in several public and civic roles including as an elected Washington Township Trustee, for the Marlington Board of Education, and on the Stark County Health Board of Directors. He also worked as an American Airlines Station Manager during his career.
His commitment to community service extended to numerous volunteer organizations. Steve served on the Board of the Alliance Hot Stove League, Washington Township Trustee, Volunteer Fire Department, and was an active member of the Washington Ruritan Club.
Steve was a man of faith and fellowship. He was a past member of First Christian Church in Ohio and most recently a member of Oak Grove Methodist Church in
Chesapeake, Virginia.
He was a graduate of Marlington High School and attended Kent State University.
Steve is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Jane Kimes; his daughters Stephanie Kimes and Lindy Boyce; son in law Matt Boyce; and his cherished granddaughters Chloe and Keagan Boyce. He is also survived by his sisters Cindy Battershell and husband John Battershell, and Bonnie Grimes; along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Steve was truly blessed by the love of his family and the many close friendships he built throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Kimes; his mother, Betty Kimes; his brother, Ronald Kimes; and his sister, Rowena Ferguson.
Steve will be remembered for his dedication to family, his service to his community, and the friendships he valued so deeply throughout his life.
Services will be held Friday, March 20th at 11am at Oak Grove United Methodist Church, 472 Battlefield Blvd N,
Chesapeake, VA 23320. A Celebration of Life will also be held in Ohio later this year.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Steve's honor to the Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department, an organization close to his heart or his Church Oak Grove United Methodist.
