Barry DeShazo Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Nicoles Funeral Home on Dec. 15, 2025.
Barry D. DeShazo, known affectionately as "Bear," gained his wings unexpectedly on December 6, 2025, at the age of 70.

Barry carried a God-given gift for music that lived within his hands and his heart. A talented guitarist, he played professionally in his younger years and never stopped loving music-playing it, listening to it, and sharing it. Some of his happiest moments were spent attending concerts alongside his beloved life partner, Kay, soaking in the sound, the energy, and the connection that music brought to their lives.

Though music was a lifelong thread, Barry also built something enduring with his hands and his work. He opened his own business, Bear's Plumbing, a reflection of who he was-reliable, hardworking, and always willing to show up when others needed help. Acts of service were one of Barry's love languages, offered generously in both big and quiet ways. If someone needed assistance, Barry didn't hesitate-he simply showed up.

Barry had a deep love for adventure and the open road. He rode with the Gold Wing Road Riders Association (GWRRA) for 20 years, finding freedom and camaraderie on his motorcycle. He loved camping, traveling, and exploring, and he felt especially at peace near the ocean-drawn to its vastness, rhythm, and calm.

Above all, Barry loved his family fiercely and fully. He also carried a wicked sense of playfulness and humor. Barry loved shenanigans-the good natured kind that brought laughter, lightened heavy moments, and reminded everyone not to take life too seriously. He was devoted to his children and cherished the life he built with Kay. He will be remembered for his steady presence, his willingness to help, his love of music and motorcycles, and the warmth he brought into the lives around him.

Barry is survived by his life partner, Kay Wagner; his children, Tammy Jo DeShazo Tyler (Eddie), Crystal DeShazo, and Bryce DeShazo (Savannah); extended family Angela Hedwall (David), Melanie Bruce (Ammon), and Krystal Wagner; several grandchildren; his sisters, Marlene Dudley and Angela Wharton (Roger); his beloved dogs, Max and Nora; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Bell DeShazo, and his siblings Lois, Jerry, Joyce, Carry, David, and Randy.

Barry "Bear" DeShazo lived with heart, generosity, and soul. His music plays on, his kindness echoes, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
