Barry Eugene Franklin, 68, of Waynesville, NC, passed peacefully from this life on Aug 20, into Glory where he is surely fishing alongside his beloved son, David.
Born January 15, 1957, and raised in the Francis Cove Community, Barry was a graduate of Tuscola’s 1975 class. A long-time employee of the paper mill and a lifelong neighbor in Francis Cove, Barry, brought joy and laughter to everyone who knew him. After the mill, he worked at Mountain Environmental Services and owned “Franklin Motors” in Canton where he continued to help folks and spread joy.
He was a hard worker, a loyal friend, and the kind of man who would show up with a homemade pound cake and a gallon of the sweetest tea in the South if you were sick or feeling down. He was a devoted father who loved his children through every up and down and stood as the true example of unconditional love.
Barry was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Edwin Franklin and Cleta Singleton Franklin, and his son, David Edwin Franklin.
Barry leaves behind his daughter, Nicole Franklin Ross (Mick Jones); his brother, Robby Franklin (Diane); and his three cherished grandchildren—Matilda “Mil” Ross, Harrison David Ross, and Lucas Oliver Jones—who were the light of his life. He is also survived by a host of cousins, nieces and a nephew who he encouraged through thick and thin, and who will forever miss a big ole “Barry hug.”
Barry will be remembered for his strength, kindness, humor, and unwavering love for his family and friends. His generous spirit and steady presence touched countless lives, leaving behind a legacy of love that will endure for generations.
If desired, memorials may be made to Barry’s favorite charity, the Pigeon Community Multicultural Development Center, 450 Pigeon Street, P.O. Box 1494, Waynesville, NC 28786.
A funeral service to honor Barry’s life will be held at Wells Funeral Home in Waynesville on Tuesday, August 26th at 1 O’clock in the afternoon with a visitation 2 hours prior starting at 11am with Tim McConnell officiating. Burial will follow service at Green Hill Cemetery in Waynesville, NC.
