With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Barry "Opa" Lung, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. Barry passed away on July 10, 2024, in Macon, GA. In his memory, all services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully request donations be made to the Masonic Children Home, 1417 Nottingham Drive, Macon, GA 31211.
He was born on March 11, 1950, in Washington, D.C., and lived a life marked by service, curiosity, and loyalty. Barry dedicated a significant portion of his life to service. He proudly served in the United States Air Force for 23 years, embodying commitment and honor. Following his retirement from the Air Force, Barry pursued a career as a Registered Nurse from 1995 to 2016, where his compassion and expertise made a lasting impact on many lives. Barry held multiple degrees, a testament to his intelligence and dedication to lifelong learning. His passion for knowledge extended to his impressive skills with computers, and he was known for his problem-solving prowess.
Outside of his career, Barry cherished simple pleasures and adventures. He was an ardent fan of science fiction and NASCAR, and he found immense joy in riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, camping, and traveling. He was also a connoisseur of good cigars, savoring each moment of relaxation they provided.
Barry's social life was equally rich, as he was a cherished member of the local Macon Hog Chapter 0808 and the Mickey Fuller Masonic Lodge #720. His loyalty and curiosity endeared him to many, and he formed strong bonds within these communities. He had immense love for his two dogs, Maggie and Skye who will surely miss their dad.
Barry is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Sarah W. Lung, with whom he shared countless memories and a deep, enduring love. He leaves behind his children, Travis (LeAnn) Lung and Kristy (Brian) Shirley, who were the pride and joy of his life. His legacy continues through his granddaughters, Virginia Sirovina and Izzy Shirley, and his two great-granddaughters, Willow and Mila. Barry is also survived by his brothers, Phillip Lung and Roy Lung, and a host of extended family and friends who will miss his presence profoundly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Eleanor Lung.
Barry "Opa" Lung will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his service to his country, and his zest for life. He leaves behind a legacy of love, intelligence, and adventure that will be cherished by all who knew him.

Aside from Barry being a very unique person, he was also a pleasure to be around. We have many very fond memories of being apart of his life while camping, fishing, kayaking, swimming, and swapping tales around the many campfires. He could always be counted on to discuss any topic with intelligent sincerity. Deb and I are extremely sorry to hear of his demise, but our priceless memories of him will not be forgotten.

Love ya Sarah,

Ed and Deb
