Barry Norman Obituary

Mr. Barry Norman of Okawville, IL departed this life in the Trenton Village Assisted Living Center at Trenton, IL on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at 11:31 a.m. after a sudden illness. He had attained the age of 79 years and 2 months.

Barry was born in St. Louis, MO on August 12, 1946, the son of Adele (nee Brill) Norman. He was united in marriage to Rosemary Prohaska in St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Belleville, IL on August 21, 1978, and she preceded him in death on January 23, 1998.

Barry was a member of St. Barbara's Catholic Church in Okawville and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a 1965 graduate of Belleville Township High School and later attended Belleville Area College. Barry served in the United States Marine Corp from 1965-1968 and saw action in Vietnam. He was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal with one Star and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. Barry worked as a Conductor for the Alton and Southern Railway in East St. Louis, IL for 50 years until his retirement in 2018. He also served as a local vice-chairperson for the United Transportation Union for many years. Barry took great pride in being a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed many years of coaching his daughter Erin's t-ball and softball teams and coaching for CYO softball. He also enjoyed telling good jokes and making people laugh.

Left to mourn his passing is his daughter Erin Weiser and husband Will of Okawville; two grandchildren, Adele and Grady Weiser of Okawville; a sister, Patricia Drinkwine of Evanston, IL; a sister-in-law, Maryanne Prohaska of NV; a nephew, Scott Drinkwine of Evanston; a niece, Kathy Koeppl and husband Mark of LaPorte, IN; other nephews and nieces, great nephews and great nieces, other relatives, and a host of friends made throughout his lifetime.

He was preceded in death by his wife Rosemary Norman his parents, Adele and Frank Krener; parents-in-law, Charles and Mary Prohaska; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Barbara's Catholic Church in Okawville on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 10 a.m. with Fr. Christopher Anyanwu officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Military graveside rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 233 of Okawville.

Friends may call at the Campagna Funeral Home in Okawville on Friday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Parkinson's Disease Association or to the Okawville Community Youth Association and will be accepted by the Campagna Funeral Home.
