Barry, a lifelong resident of Ponchatoula, LA and dedicated member of the Ponchatoula Volunteer Fire Department, passed away Thursday, August 21, 2025, at the age of 66. He was a dedicated member of Trinity Baptist Church where he also served as a Deacon. Barry was a gifted aircraft mechanic by trade and had a talent for fixing just about anything, often with a creativity that would make MacGyver proud. Whether it was a broken engine, a household repair, or a problem no one else could solve, he always found a way and did it right the first time. When Barry wasn't lending a hand or tinkering in his workshop, he found peace in the woods and on the water. He loved hunting, fishing, and traveling, especially when it meant sharing those moments with friends and family. Above all, Barry was an exceptional father, always present, always patient, and endlessly proud. His legacy will live on in the lives he's touched, the things he's built, and the values he passed down. Barry will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Gay Robertson Sterken; daughter, Amanda Sterken; sons, Benjamin Ernst, Haze Sterken, Knox Sterken; and brothers, Tillman Sterken Jr. (Angie), and David Sterken (Michelle). Barry was preceded in death by his daughter, Kayla Ernst; and parents, Tillman and Sylvia Sterken. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at Trinity Baptist Church on Tuesday, August 26, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 12:00 p.m. Bro. Avery Dixon will officiate with interment to follow in the church cemetery.

I have many memories of Barry. He was a great guy! We were classmates from Jr. High through high school and my first cousin, Angie, married his brother, Tillman. I had been praying for him and was really sad to hear he had passed. At least now he's no longer suffering and is at peace with our Lord. Deepest sympathy to his wife and family.
