Barry Summers of Freeport, IL died Saturday June 7, 2025 at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, IL. Barry was born in St. Louis, MO on March 28, 1957 to Harry and Dolores. Barry spent 24 years working as a dedicated tower worker all across the country in rain, snow, and sunshine. His coworkers meant the world to him and were truly a family away from home. Barry was a man of simple pleasures, from watching old western movies, eating good food, casting a line, going for a drive in his truck with his late dog Bailey, and spending time with his family and other dogs Rusty and Archie. Barry was a man that was always willing to lend a helping hand to family and neighbors with no thought of himself, he truly was a loyal, selfless, and loving man. He was a man of few words but was always thoughtful and meaningful when he used them. He is survived by his wife Janet Summers (Tochtrop) of Freeport, IL, sons Luke Cowan, Brett Cowan of St. Peters, MO and Ricky Tochtrop of Providence, PA; Mother Dolores "June" Summers of Troy, IL, Grandkids Ruby Cowan and Logan Cowan; 5 sisters Angela, Harriet, Marsha, Monica, and Stephanie as well as many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father Harry Summers, mother-in-law Olean Tochtrop, and brother-in-law Roger Tochtrop. A memorial service will be held on Saturday July 12, 2025 at 12 noon, at the Schwarz Park Blvd Chapel, 608 S. Park Blvd in Freeport, IL.
