Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home - South Sioux CityBarry K. Wiffen, 89 of South Sioux City passed away Thursday, November 20, 2025. A Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00 to 5:00 P.M. Friday, December 5, 2025 at the South Sioux City American Legion.
Barry was born the son of Harry and Maggie (Parmenter) Wiffen on June 21, 1936 in England. He graduated from Sudbury Suffolk High School in 1951. In his youth he was a standout soccer player. He also served in the British Army. Barry immigrated to the United States with ten bucks in his pocket. He married Sheri Glass and together they raised four children.
Barry was part of the painter’s union with Blankenship Painting for 35 years until his retirement in 1998.
He spent a lot of time hanging out at the South Sioux City American Legion and enjoyed playing golf with the guys over at Covington Links. He also liked watching golf and horse racing. He could tell you the specs and all the information about each horse and jockey.
Barry is survived by his children, David (Vicky) Wiffen, Clayton (Donna) Wiffen, Tracy (Ron) Wipf, and Valerie Thomason; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; sister, Joan (Mack) McCleod; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Spencer and John; and sisters, Muriel, Joyce, Valerie, Jean, and Peggy.
