Bart was a graduate of Stroman high school and a three-year starter for the Raiders. During that time, he made second team all-district pitcher and honorable mention shortstop his senior season. His most notable accomplishment came in his junior year. While playing against Corpus Christi Ray, he completed a nine-inning perfect game.
He went on to attend Lubbock Christian University on a scholarship. He was one of the first four-year letterman in LCU baseball history. After graduating with a B/S in Education, he coached baseball and taught at Lubbock High School and Alice High School before moving back home to Victoria. He continued his career at VHS teaching Spanish, coaching baseball, shot put and discus. He also coached varsity running backs for VHS and Memorial High School. Throughout his career, he made a lasting impact both on the field and in the classroom that is still felt today.
When he wasn't working, he spent his time watching baseball, football, especially the Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with the people he loved. Including those he chose to call family that he met throughout his years.
In addition to his parents, Bart was preceded in death by his brothers, Rudy and John Peter Hernandez.
Leaving to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Mary Alice Hernandez; son, Bart Anthony Hernandez; siblings, Liz Chapa, Rick Hernandez and Gloria Aguillon.
