Barwick "Bro" Hendrix was born on June 19, 1952 to Walstein Mincey, Jr. and Sadie R. Hendrix Deloach in Metter, Georgia. He entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, April 2, 2025.
He was a member of Tremont Temple Baptist Church before moving over to St. Luke Independent Methodist Church in Metter, Georgia. He attended the public schools of Candler County, Georgia and graduated from Lillian Street
High School in 1970.
Barwick began his career as a brick mason, before joining the Georgia Department of Transportation as a Civil Engineering Technician. During his tenure he received several acknowledgements including the Smoothness Award for his oversight and project management for the Resurfacing of US Hwy 301. Barwick was the first African American to be hired and retire from
GDOT's Area VI Construction Unit. He worked with GDOT for 30 years before retiring as a Construction Inspector in December 2014. In addition to his work with GDOT, he was known for his skills in repairing lawn equipment and small machinery. Later on he became a member of the local Cherokee Rose Garden Club where he competed in good spirits and won
several blue ribbons.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Ava J. Hendrix; his father, Walstein Mincey, Jr.; two brothers, George Alton Deloach and Walstein Mincey, III; two sisters, Barbara Ann Hendrix and Debra Mincey; maternal grandparents, Quanita Victoria Hendrix and Van Buren Hendrix; paternal grandparents, Bertha Lee Mincey and Walstein Mincey, Sr.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Sadie Ruth Deloach of Metter, GA; one son, Barwick Jamaal Hendrix of Metter, GA; one daughter, Melodye Johnson of Stone Mountain, GA; two grandsons, Jordan Alexander Johnson of Stone Mountain, GA and Grayson Maddux Hendrix of Metter, GA; one granddaughter, Madelyn Grace Hendrix of Metter, GA; two brothers,
Emmon W. Deloach, Jr. of Metter, GA and Ricky Mincey of Fort Lauderdale, FL; five sisters, Cheri Deloach, Bridgette Deloach and Sharon Edwards all of Metter, GA; Brenda Williams (Nathaniel) and Annie Mincey of Fort Lauderdale, FL; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
