Basil G. Akkaway

Basil G. Akkaway, 74, of Paterson died on February 28, 2010. Born and raised in Paterson, Mr. Akkaway was a lifelong resident. Presently he was employed in Maintenance at Passaic County Technical Institute in Wayne. Prior employment had been with Joey Kay's Supermarket, formerly in Paterson, where he had been a butcher for many years. Mr. Akkaway was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Armenian Catholic Church in Little Falls and was a member of American Legion John Raad Post 438 in Paterson. He was predeceased by two brothers: Joseph and Raymond; and by a sister, Mary Akkaway. Mr. Akkaway is survived by his wife, Rose (nee D'Andrea), of Paterson; his daughters: Lorraine Mulick and her husband, Craig, of Clifton and Shirley DeFranco and her husband, Joseph, of Bloomfield; his brothers: Paul of Paterson and Edward of Parsippany; his sister, Rose Gadzis, of Haskell; and two granddaughters: Jennifer Mulick and Brooke DeFranco. Funeral services will be Thursday 9:15 am from the Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Avenue, Clifton and 10:00 am at Sacred Heart Armenian Catholic Church, 155 Long Hill Road, Little Falls. Entombment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery Mausoleum, Totowa. Visiting Wednesday from 3-5 & 7-9 pm. Memorial contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105 would be appreciated.
