Basilio Del Moral Lai, son of Dionisio Del Moral and Gumersinda Lai, was born on April 8,1945 on the enchanted island of Yabucoa, Puerto Rico.
He grew up in a large, vibrant family alongside his siblings Julia, María, Andrea, Carmen, Esperanza, Modesto, Jacinto, Dolores, Genoveva, Luis, and his twin sister Catalina.
At the age of 18, he came to New York in search of better opportunities, determined to build a stronger future for himself and the family he would one day raise.
Basilio later married Amelia, lovingly known in the family as Mami. Together they created a home rooted in love and deep devotion.
He was the proud father of María, Juan Antonio, Cindy, Lorraine, Liliana, and Janette. Through his union with Amelia, he embraced six additional children as his own: Raul, Luz, Vicente, Maria, Juan Carlos, and Lulu. He was blessed with 17 grandchildren, in a blended family held together by genuine love and acceptance.
Basilio was a devoted father, grandfather, uncle, friend, and neighbor. He was selfless, dependable, and structured in the way he lived his life. He worked tirelessly throughout his years, spending many of them in the textile industry before retiring.
His greatest passions were singing and dancing salsa. He could dance for hours, completely at peace in the music, and his voice carried a softness that felt almost angelic. He also enjoyed a good game of dominoes over a cold Heineken. These simple moments of rhythm, laughter, and friendly competition were his joy.
Basilio understood the importance of family. He cherished togetherness, kept traditions alive, and showed his love through presence, consistency, and quiet acts of care. Even in retirement, he stayed active and fit, valuing movement, fresh air, and the discipline of caring for himself. He was known for his gentle spirit, his willingness to help, and the calm, steady presence he carried everywhere he went.
He leaves behind a blended family who adored him and a legacy of love, resilience, and cherished memories that will continue to guide all who knew him.
Heaven welcomed him, a precious angel, on November 7, 2025, 80 years young.

To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Basilio, please visit our floral store.
