Basilisa Jacobo Lopez

Basilisa Jacobo Lopez, a resident of Watsonville for many years, died on February 2, 2026. She was 97.

Basilisa was born in Michoacan, Mexico, on April 11, 1928, to her parents, Lino and Maria Jacobo. She was a very loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who was known as "Base" by her grand and great grandkids. She loved making bets on the winning sport teams with them, and she was very sociable, loved having long conversations, and learning new things. She enjoyed knitting, being outdoors, especially in her garden, and tending to her birds.

Basilisa is survived by her children, Aurora, Salvador, Ignacio, Rogelio, Jose, Angelita, Lourdes, Silvia, Martin, and Roberto. She also leaves behind 14 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 70 years, Roberto Lopez Diaz, her sons, Ranulfo, and Joel, as well as her siblings, Guadalupe, Dionisia, and Prudenciana.

Viewing will be held at Mehl's Colonial Chapel on Monday, February 16, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm, with the rosary starting at 7:00 pm. Funeral mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of The Assumption Catholic Church on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at 10:00 am, with the burial to follow at Valley Public Cemetery at 11:00 am.
