Madeline A. Battagliese loving mother of four children sadly passed away Friday morning, February 28, 2025. She was 82 years old.
Madeline was born June 24, 1942 in New York City. Growing up in the city, she quickly became enamored with the big lights of Broadway. She absolutely loved singing and dreamed & aspired to become a singer herself one day. In her spare time from being a full time mother she worked diligently on honing & perfecting her singing voice. Anyone that heard her sing would agree her voice was quite magnificent. It always brought her much joy to perform even if it was for a small audience.
Besides singing Madeline's other love was for interior decorating and up cycling furniture bargain finds. Oh how she loved the goodwill store. She was always eager to tell us about her new finds for the house even though her mother would complain of the clutter (It's okay Ma, Christina and I have inherited the same up cycling bug, lol). She always kept busy in her retirement in finding new ways to update a room in the house. She loved Christmas especially with her annual Christmas village under the tree. It was always a sight to see how much time and effort she put into all the finite details of that holiday display (once again, I have inherited that trait too, thanks Ma! SMH)
However, I think out of all the things she enjoyed to do the biggest thrill she ever had was being a grandmother to her two grandsons Nikos and Lukas. She absolutely loved her grandsons with all her heart and soul as well as her four children. Family was her biggest joy even though we were all spread out geographically. She was always so proud of her daughter Christina and the success she has in her career. She would be enamored to hear of all places she went to all over the world. Madeline always lit up like a little kid on Christmas whenever she would hear from Christina whether it was on the phone or in person. Her other daughter Michelle was her absolute rock. Not only was Michelle her favorite dinner companion or shopping buddy but she was my mother's best friend. Michelle was always there for her and my grandmother whenever there was an in issue big or small or just to hang out and spend time together. Her oldest child Billy was a huge staple in her life as he lived with both my mother and grandmother. He quickly became co caretaker of our grandmother and helped out my mother whenever he could in the house. My mother was always grateful for him being there for both of them. She loved him dearly.
As for me I know she loved me dearly too. She loved my sons so much and I was eternally grateful of the grandmother she became. I know we will all miss her but her stories and funny mishaps will live on this family for decades to come. Stories ranging from the Christmas bedazzled jeans for Nikos she bought when he was little and the size 54 underwear she bought me will live on in infamy in our family as well as countless other tales.
To me that's a true testament if someone was truly loved and important to a family. You don't reminisce about non important people. You laugh and reminisce about those who made an impact in your life.
So with that said, we all bid farewell to my mother. May there be the best Kohl's and Lowe's in Heaven as well as an endless pot of coffee. We kids will make sure to bury a 30% off Kohl's coupon with you for you to use.
Love and always,
Billy, Michelle, Christina and Richard
