Baxter Daniel Burke

Mr. Baxter Daniel Burke, age 86, of Calhoun, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, November 18, 2025.
Baxter was born on February 13, 1939, in Siler City, North Carolina, to the late Charlie Andy Burke and Pepsi Pattishall Burke. In addition to his parents, Baxter was also preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Helen Burke, and by daughter, Carla Lynn Burke.
Baxter graduated from North Carolina State University in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Shortly thereafter he met his wife Beverly in Atlanta, and they were married in 1963. Baxter worked as a Design Engineer with Lockheed Aircraft in Marietta, Georgia, for nearly six years; as an Engineering Supervisor with LTV Aerospace Corporation in Hampton Roads, Virginia for over seven years; and as a Senior Structural Engineer with the Tennessee Valley Authority in both Knoxville, Tennessee, and Decatur, Alabama, from which he retired, with over twenty-six years of service.
Baxter was a member of Calhoun First Baptist Church. In earlier years, Baxter belonged to a flying club, loved to fish and hunt, and was an excellent wood worker and fix-it man. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend; he will be missed by all his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly Miller Burke; daughters, Melanie Burke Ruhlman (Tony) and Paula Sue Burke; grandchildren, Charlie Robert Ruhlman and Olivia Lynn Ruhlman; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Baxter are Sunday, November 23, 2025, at Calhoun First Baptist Church at 3:00 pm with Dr. Steven Waters officiating. The family will receive friends at the Church prior to the service from 1:00 pm until 2:45 pm. Interment will be at Everett Springs Baptist Church Cemetery following the service.
Pallbearers will be Charlie Ruhlman, Mark Miller, John Miller, Jason Miller, Josh Smith, and Dustin Smith.
