Beatrice Ward Balls of Smithfield, Utah, returned home to her Heavenly Father on November 1, 2025 at the age of 93. She was born July 5, 1932 in Malta, Idaho, to Dale LeRoy and Myrtle Beatrice Ward. She was the oldest daughter of seven children.
Shortly after Beatrice was born, her family moved to Layton, Utah, where she grew up. She graduated from Davis High School at the age of 16. At times Beatrice worked two jobs to earn the money necessary to attend college. It was her dream to become a teacher and she graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. For over 26 years, Beatrice served the Cache County School District, where she taught 1st grade. Her creative ability to make learning fun left a lasting impact on her students. Beatrice spent many sleepless nights worrying about a struggling student. She just wouldn't give up until each child succeeded.
Beatrice married Marsden Balls on June 7, 1957 in the Logan LDS Temple. She was a devoted wife and mother of four children. Beatrice lived most of her life in Hyde Park where she owned and operated a dairy farm with Marsden and her children. She moved to Logan not long after her husband's passing and became a part of a wonderful neighborhood of friends she dearly loved. Beatrice was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many capacities but her favorite calling was teaching the music in Primary.
Beatrice loved to paint ceramic figurines. Over the years she proudly displayed her collection in her home and the homes of her family and friends. Each piece was beautifully done and brought joy to both the giver and receiver.
Beatrice was preceded in death by her husband, Marsden; daughter, Sandra Bassett, grandson Chet Atkinson, great granddaughter, Josie Atkinson, parents and all of her siblings. She is survived by her children, son-in-law Stan Bassett, Hyrum, Lori (Nolan) Murray, Mendon, Kent (Wendy) Balls Hyde Park, Gayla (Dave) Atkinson, Cove, twelve grandchildren and twenty-five great grandchildren.
