Beatrice Jones, age 98, affectionately known as "Bea" or "Nana," passed away peacefully at home on Friday, August 22, 2025, while taking her midday nap. Nana's departure was quiet and serene, just as she lived.
Nana was born August 23, 1926, in Danville, VA to William and Audrey Davis Carter. She was educated in the Philadelphia Public School System. At the age of 17, Nana married Roland B. Jones and from that union seven children were born.
For those who knew Nana, they knew she had a love for sewing. She is responsible for making a couple of wedding dresses, suits, shorts, and shirts; and let's not talk about the many baby blankets for the baby boys and girls in this family. We are definitely not going to leave out the fact she loved to sing. Nana sang on the choir at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was an alto and had a voice like an angel from heaven. She was also a part of the Life Choir which consisted of singers from various church choirs.
Nana worked at different factories from North Philadelphia, Allegheny Avenue to Quartermasters in South Philadelphia where she retired in 1989. Some may not know that Nana volunteered as a classroom aide at McMichael School, 35th & Fairmount Avenue in Mantua.
Nana became a source of support for many in her life. She provided wisdom, advice, and friendship to many. I think we can all agree Nana had a sense of humor. She had a story to tell anyone who listened. In all of Nana's stories she spoke about the Lord. It seemed as if every life situation she referred it back to a scripture in the Bible. She read her Bible every day and if you misspoke or called a scripture wrong, she would take you to the correct scripture and say, "now read it." She was a true woman of God.
Nana was predeceased by her husband Roland Jones, Sr.; daughter Denise V. Jones; grandsons Eric M. Laws, Damone Garrison, and Dana Garrison; and great-granddaughter Brandi Q. Davis.
Nana leaves to mourn six children: Selena Garrison, Diana Jones, Devon Butler, Roland B. Jones, Jr., Shawn Jones, and Bernita Jones; 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren; 7 nephews (Bruce Carter, Raymond Carter, William B. Carter, Duane Carter, Jerome Carter, Larry Carter, and Tony Carter); 2 nieces (Angerise Carter and Renee Carter); great and great-great nieces and nephews; and a host of cousins, family, and friends.
Lovingly Submitted,
The Family
