Becky Wood

Rebecca “Becky” Hoover Wood, age 78, of Cherryville, passed away October 7, 2025, at her home. She was born November 7, 1946, in Lincoln County, to the late James Rhodes Hoover and the late Ruth Finger Hester.

Becky was a member of Anthony Grove Baptist Church. She was actively involved in the church, where she served on the Lay Ministry Team, the Bereavement Committee, and the Cooking Team. She was the Director of Payroll at Carolina Freight and retired from ABF. Becky was a Chief Judge for Gaston County Board of Elections. She donated much of her time to Penny Thrift in Stanley. She adored her grandsons more than anything else.

In addition to her parents, Becky was preceded in death by Dave Wood; and brother, Phillip Buchanan.

Survivors include her daughter, Shannon Mosteller; grandsons, Cooper York, Parker York, and Paxton York; special friends, Beth York, Dianne Jenkins, Callie Wofford, Darlene Risk, Peggy McSwain, and Pam Anthony; dog, Boo Boo; sister, Sandra Hunter; her Anthony Grove Church family; and numerous other family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM on Friday, October 10, 2025, at Carpenter-Porter Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:30 PM on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Anthony Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Dennis Bean officiating. Burial will follow at Cherryville City Memorial Cemetery.
