Belva Holmes passed away on January 2, 2026, at the Tuscola County Medical Care Community surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 11, 1931, to the late Melvin and Ellen (Ashcroft) Phillips and was a 1948 graduate of Cass City High School. She then began working at Bauer Candy Company as an accountant. She married Hallie Holmes in 1950, and the couple shared almost 50 years together. He preceded her in death in 2000. She was a homemaker most of her life but in later years worked as an EMT for Collon Funeral Home where she had many adventures. She was always willing to help anyone out and loved home improvements, craft projects and gardening. She loved to cook and entertain on holidays but most of all she loved and cherished her family.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan (Randy) LaFave; special niece, Michelle Dennings; daughter-in-law, Sandra Holmes; grandchildren, Scott (Crysty) Frick, Kyle (Michele) Frick, Kelly (David) Bullard, Heather (Jerry) Wallace, and Hallie (Lucy) Holmes; great grandchildren, Ella and Quinton Frick, Kayla, Haley, & Kholie Bullard, Hannah & Hayden Holmes, Hadley Wallace, and Lucas Holmes; and great great grandson, Charlie Holmes; as well as many nieces and nephews great nieces and nephews, and special great niece Sarah Lowe.

She was preceded in death by her two sons, Timothy and David Holmes and two brothers, Raymond and Ronald Phillips.

Belva’s family would like to give a special thank you to the nurses and CENAs at the Tuscola County Medical Care Community who took excellent care of her.

A memorial service celebrating Belva’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at Ransford Funeral Home – Caro, 205 W. Sherman St Caro, MI. The service will be officiated by beloved friend of the family Chris Taylor. Visitation will take place at the funeral home from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service, with a private family committal to be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lighthouse Rehabilitation Center, 1655 E. Caro Rd, Caro, MI 48723.
