Ben J. Pompey, 93, of Niles, Michigan, formerly of Dowagiac, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at his residence.
He was born on August 1, 1932, in Dowagiac, the son of the late Bennie C. Pompey Sr and Blanche M. (Brown) Pompey. Ben was a 1951 graduate of Dowagiac Central High School. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army serving 2 years from Dec. 1952 to Dec. 1954.
Surviving are six children, Bobby Joe (Barb) Shell, Victoria (Jamie) Anderson, Henry (Duel) Shell, Randel (Patricia) Pompey, Ben (Marybeth) Pompey, and Benita (Don) Lomax; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family.
Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Ernestine (Haithcox) Pompey; son, Jerry Shell; grandson, Jason Pompey; six brothers, Jack Pompey, Dean Pompey, Wayne Pompey, Donald Pompey, Max Pompey and Richard Pompey; and lifelong friend, Jim Murray.
