Graveside services for Ben Hill "Bo" Rutledge, Jr. will be held at 2:30pm on Sunday, October 27, 2024, at Pleasant Grove Cemetery with Bro. Paul Clayton officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 12pm until 2pm on Sunday at Higgins Funeral Home.
Bo was born December 26, 1929, in Sumter County, SC to the late Ben Hill Rutledge, Sr. and Helen Marie White Rutledge. He was a veteran of the US Army from the Korean War era and worked for the water department in Columbia, SC for many years. After moving with his family in 1974 to Lincoln County, TN he was a dairy farmer and part time preacher. Bo was a man of his word and devout Christian. He enjoyed music, loved a good cap and never left home without one, and he enjoyed watching the Three Stooges. Mr. Rutledge passed away October 25, 2024, at his home, with family at his side.
Survivors include his daughter, Helen R. Goswick of Fayetteville; son, Philip W. Rutledge and wife Margie of Clay, NY; grandchildren, Tara (John) Mole, Bobby Cole Goswick, Timothy Balana, Kathryn Rutledge; great-grandchildren, Lane Ledford, Lukas Ledford, Lori Ledford, Devin Mole; brother, Edward E. "Ned" Rutledge; brother-in-law, Mark (Brenda) Monks; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Monks; and caregiver, Teresa Sajpel. In addition to his parents, Mr. Rutledge was preceded in death by his wife of almost 64 years, Rachel Adelaide Monks Rutledge; brother, William White Rutledge; and sisters, Helen Doris Rutledge, Kathryn Ann Rutledge, and Marguerite R. Blackwell.

"Bo" was a life-long best friend of my husband. Hardly a day passed that I did not hear a story or some fond memory of Bo Rutledge. Please know that he will always be a huge part of our fond memories of growing up in Sumter.
