Benjamin Conrad Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wolfe Funeral Home - Fort Mill from Apr. 3 to Apr. 9, 2025.
Tega Cay, SC - The world lost a treasure on Tuesday, April 1st, 2025. Benjamin Edgar "Ben" Conrad was a beloved husband, precious dad, and a very proud "Boppy" (grandfather and great-grandfather). While stationed in Fort Hood, Texas he met and married the love of his life, MaryAnn Bergmann. They were together for 56 years. He was a proud soldier and served 20+ years in the Armed Forces, where he was a tanker during his deployments to Germany and a Drill Sergeant at Fort Knox, Kentucky. He retired as a Master Sergeant and went on to have a full, second career with the US Postal Service before retiring and becoming active at his local senior center. Ben was a happy man and had a sweet spirit, with a kind word to anyone he encountered. He woke up smiling and went to bed smiling. Ben fought against unyielding odds and lost his final battle surrounded by those who loved him most. Ben leaves behind a legacy of fiercely loving his wife and family, an incomparable work ethic, and of a life fully lived. Ben will be deeply missed. His loved ones are so grateful for his life and the immeasurable impact he made. He was predeceased by his father, Underwood Conrad; his mother, Ruth Drye Porterfield; and his brother, Woodie Conrad. Ben is survived by his loving wife, MaryAnn Bergmann Conrad, and by his much loved children Peggy (Jay), Steve, Leah (Mike), and Paul (Tammy). He absolutely adored his grandchildren Weston, Amanda, Jordan, Haleigh (Matt), Zachery (Maggie), Alexis (Tucker), Molly, and Josh. His great-grandchildren, Isabella, Mackenna, Everleigh, Collins, Leighton, Conrad, Everest and Sparrow were the lights of his life. He also leaves behind his brothers George Porterfield and Kevin Porterfield. Ben was also a proud uncle to Christy Conrad Felder (Mike). A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on April 12, 2025 at Wolfe Funeral Home. A visitation is being held an hour before the service. Memorials may be made to AMVETS. Thank you for your service, brave soldier. At ease, Sergeant Conrad, we have the watch. Hooah! To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Benjamin, please visit our floral store.
