Benjamin Neal Eubanks, SR., age 83, passed away on January 20, 2021 at 7:49 P.M. at his home surrounded by his loved ones.
Ben worked at P. R Mallory as a supervisor, then as a salesman for the Du Quoin Meat Packing Co. and moved to Effingham, IL. selling "Blue Bell" meat products. Yearning to return to Du Quoin, Ben became a coal miner working with a "Band of Brothers" (who gave him the nickname of Baby Dumpling) at Freeman Coal #6, Inland Steel, which eventually became Consol Rend Lake Mine, for 27 years.
He was born on December 22, 1937 at the home of his parents, the son of George Russell and Hazel Lucille (Stevenson) Eubanks, in Du Quoin.
He married Janet Sue Bottomley on September 14, 1963 in Du Quoin. They were Blessed with 57+ years of togetherness.
Ben is survived by two sons - James R. Eubanks of Du Quoin, Benjamin Neal Eubanks, JR. (Cathy) of Ormond Beach FL., one daughter - Susan M. Harris (Kevin) of Ballwin, MO. - one brother - Russell Eubanks (Kay) of Pinckneyville - one brother-in-law - Ronald Bottomley (Carolyn) of Morris, IL. - nine grandchildren - Tyler Skorch (Cassie), Trevor Eubanks, Erin Eubanks, Brandon Eubanks, Benji Eubanks, Nolan Eubanks, Kate Harris, Patrick Harris, and Megan Harris - four great grandchildren - Lucy, Parker, Sterling, and Oaklie – several nieces and nephews – and a special friend- Don Skouby of DeSoto.
Ben was preceded in death by his parents - George Russell and Hazel Lucille Eubanks, in-laws - James Clarence and Freda (Dirler) Bottomley, sister-in-law - Carole (Bottomley) Wells.
A grateful "thank you" to our granddaughter, Erin, who showed up every day for 13 months giving Ben loving care. To all his special Hospice caregivers: Beth, Katrina, Mandy, Jessica, Amy, and Kara, I thank God for sending these angels to take care of Ben.
Memorial contributions can be made to: Hospice of Southern Illinois, 305 S. Illinois St., Belleville, IL 62220.
Per Ben's request, cremation rites were accorded. There will be no public visitation or funeral services.
