Benjamin Edward "Ted" Evans, 87, of Orangeburg, SC, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2025. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 60 years, Mary "M.C." Evans, and is survived by his three daughters, Marcy Evans Wohlford (Mike), Molly Evans Tulowitzky (Jeff), and Jenny Evans Smith (Jim).
Ted was born in Canon City, Colorado and grew up in Johnson, Kansas. Ted and "M.C." met at their best friends' wedding, had a long distance relationship between South Carolina and Michigan and soon married and settled in Orangeburg. Ted had a long and fulfilling career as a chemical engineer at Ethel/Albemarle Corporation. A loving father, Ted dedicated many hours to supporting his daughters, cheering them on at their sports events and raising them to be strong, independent women. He made sure each of his girls knew how to hammer a nail and saw a board, and he enjoyed them working alongside him on home improvement projects. Ted loved playing golf with "M.C.", watching sports, creating spreadsheets on his computer and flipping through TV channels in search of another game to watch. Ted also enjoyed the fellowship and camaraderie of both his Sunday School class and his men's breakfast group.
Ted was actively involved at First Presbyterian Church of Orangeburg for over 55 years, serving as a deacon and elder. His commitment to serving his church family and the community were a cornerstone of his life.
Ted's love for family extended to his grandchildren, Haley Wohlford Morgan (Garrett), Mallory Wohlford Guevara (Austin), Reid Tulowitzky (Ashton), Graham Tulowitzky, and Merritt Tulowitzky, as well as his great-grandchildren, Lilah and Julia Morgan. From crabbing off the dock with them as young children to sitting across the card table with them as young adults, he fostered a legacy of love, faith, and dedication.
A private family service to celebrate Ted's life with interment will be held at Union Memorial Presbyterian Church in Winnsboro, SC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice and Community Care, P.O. Box 993, Rock Hill, SC 29731
