Benjamin Franklin Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Directors - Midland Chapel on Feb. 24, 2026.
Benjamin Henry Franklin, known affectionately to friends and family as Ben, and Papa Ben to his grandchildren, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2026, in Midland, Michigan, at the age of 84. Born on January 31, 1942, in Biscoe, Arkansas, to Henry and Theresa Franklin, Ben's journey through life was marked by a commitment to his family, his faith, and the pursuit of knowledge.

He carried this love of education with him to Chicago, where he studied at Roosevelt University. His academic achievements led him to a distinguished career as a toxicologist. In 1969 he was hired away from Industrial Bio-Test in Deerfield, Illinois by Dow Corning, in Midland, Michigan where he also made significant contributions to patent work. His intellectual pursuits did not end with his professional career; Ben furthered his education by becoming a Master Gardener through Michigan State University, a testament to his lifelong passion for gardening.

Ben was a devoted family man, cherishing moments spent with his beloved grandchildren and sharing his love for gardening with hosts of friends. He is survived by his son, Nathan Franklin (Ellie); and Nate's legacy that includes Danielle Inch (Travis) and their daughter Anastasia. He is also survived by his daughter, Stephanie Jackson (Jim); and Stephanie's legacy that includes Sarah Jackson, Samuel Jackson, and Daniel Jackson (Meghan) and their daughter Lainey. Ben was predeceased by his cherished wife of 56 years, Corenia S. Franklin, and siblings Betty Ellis, Edward Franklin, and Sally Jordan. He is also survived by his brother, Sidney Franklin, and a host of nephews and nieces.

He was a beacon of friendliness and generosity, always ready to lend a helping hand or share his gardening wisdom. His warm presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. A celebration of life will be scheduled for later in June.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Ben's memory be sent to:
