Benjamin FREEDMAN Obituary

Published by Buffalo News on Jan. 13, 2013.
FREEDMAN - Benjamin R. "The Jingle Guy" January 9, 2013, in Plano, Texas, age 63. Buffalo native and beloved husband of Noreen (Del Monte) Freedman; dear father of Joshua Freedman, Jessica (Christopher) Geiman, and Ben Freedman, Jr.; loving grandfather of Layla and John Geiman; brother to Barbara (Kenneth) Condrell; and beloved son of the late Alan (Bud) Freedman and June V. Freedman. Ben's passion was to write and record radio jingles for thousands of local and national stations and DJ's. Through the years, Ben recorded jingles in his home studios in Buffalo and later in Dallas, TX. Ben was so proud to sing the glories of the great Buffalo DJ Danny Neaverth and his famous lyric "Danny Moves Your Fanny in the Morning on KB and Oldies 104 Radio" in the 1970's and 80's. Ben was also proud of his 25 years working locally with his father Bud at their family business Bergman Tool Manufacturing Company. Above all, Ben was a family man. He dearly loved his wife Noreen to whom he was married to for over 27 years. Ben also cherished his children and grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are pending at this time.

Great friendly radio jingles will never go out of style in real radio and for so many of those we owe our jingles to Mr Ben Freedman whose name and memory will always be with us as we all so fondly remember MR Jingle...now 11 years later and still so relevant on the air! Thanks for everything Ben!

Ben Freedman's jingle productions virtually changed my radio life as a weekly program host on FM. There are those among us who should ALWAYS be remembered and appreciated for the positive effects that they had on so many of us. Ben is one of those whose work effected and supported so many of us who wanted to sound "good" on radio. The listeners likely do not realize the professional sounds behind our ID's and Promos are all thanks to Ben Freedman. It was Ben gave us the means to be more than just a voice into the mic ! We will not forget him ever!

Everytime I play one of my program jingles on air (CFEP - Canada) I feel like I am sharing the wisdom that Ben created with the Promo Banks that I use to create those jingles using his examples. He was miles ahead on this stuff and the listeners notice. The "Ben Freedman" sound will go on on stations all over thank goodness and THANKYOU Ben...hope you can hear the results where you are.

I "found" Ben as i was a jingle enthusiast ("freak" as they say) and decided to do a search online & this "Jingle University" popped up. Who knew there was a college for jingles?..:) At any rate, I took the quiz, did pretty well & Ben explained the "Instant Radio Station concept to me---sounded pretty good & I'm proud to say I own a copy of the series. As I attempted to organize my "instant Radio Station" jingles to start streaming on the internet, I realized I could use some additional material. It was then I re-visited Ben's site only to learn he had passed away. Wow--quite the "reality-check". i didn't have many conversations with Ben, but the few I had I enjoyed--"quality versus quantity". Ben was a "good guy"in more than just a radio catch phrase. R-I-P Ben--Condolences to the family & Ben's other friends.

My condolences to the family of Ben. When I worked for Athens International Radio (AIR 104.4 FM) which I created in 2004, I purchased his Instant Radio Station and Promobank 1 which boosted us to a great start with his clever jingles. I'm sure he will be missed by all.

Ben was a good guy... a one of a kind force in the jingle business. It was in his blood!

June 7, 2013

I only discovered "Ben Freedman Sr" after his passing and in reading all of his life history and story, I feel that I had in common with him, that unique quality that has "radio" broadcasting "in your blood". It is evident that Ben was one of those special people that had that field as a part of his quest for life. I feel as if I might have known him...although not, I feel that I knew him as the kind of special radio person that comes along only rarely and leaves their mark on history. Ben got it right in what he did and produced for radio stations everywhere and those of us fortunate enough to hold a license for his most unique and ahead of its time products are indeed lucky to have been associated with his organization and his surviving family. Ben you were a true pioneer in your field and your name will go into the books on broadcasting I feel. Thankyou Ben Sr for what you had the vision to do and Thankyou Ben Jr for carrying on in this because it is important.God Bless.

So sorry to hear of Ben's passing. I reached out to him a few years ago and bought some of his products just for fun. It started a dialog via email that I enjoyed and still have. I came by today just to see what he was up to and was so saddened to see the news. To me, he seemed like a warm man who embraced life and his passions wholeheartedly. I extend sincere condolences to his family.

What a great guy who worked with anyone who appreciated his talent.
I can also tell that Noreen is the same type of thoughtful, kind and helpful spirit. My thoughts and prayers are with you in this time of
sadness. I did many packages with Ben
and his spirit carrys on in his music heard round the world. We last chatted
in December and Ben planned to be back in the studio in February but that day never came.

Ben had asked me in December 2012 to help with one of his projects. I told him after NAB I could help. Sorry I was too late. What a talent and he will be missed. The radio world needed Ben, but apparently God needed him more. Sad to let go, I will miss our occassional conversations everytime I hear the last jingles he wrote for a format I've been building.

Since 1984, when dear Ben produced the first jingles for our international station based in Glasgow, Scotland, we've enjoyed a wonderful relationship. Whatever we needed, no matter how complicated or downright bizarre, Ben always came up not just with the goods, but always with the added joy of his pithy comments on our session recordings. Radio Six International celebrates its fiftieth year in June, and for nearly thirty years much of our station sound has been down to Ben and his passion for radio IDs. We will miss him, his humor, and his remarkable talent. Our love and sympathy to Noreen and the family.

Ben leaves an unbelievable legacy of kindness and creativity. I operate radio stations in St. Louis Missouri and talked with Ben many times during the last five years. He and I last emailed each other January 7th regarding a project. He will be sorely missed but his legacy will live on for years. My sincerest sympathys to Ben's family. He now creates jingles in heaven. God bless you.

To Noreen and family, Yvonne and I just learned of Ben's passing. We are very sad to hear of it. Last time I saw Ben was at our Grandmother Inez's 90th birthday celebration in 1982. I have fond memories of Ben, Barbara and parents when they visited Tomah Lake as children. We are praying for you and the family at this time of loss. Cousin Robert Clyde Vandervort.

Very, very sad to hear of Ben's passing. We are a very small hospital radio station in the UK east midlands and when I approached Ben a few years back to ask for advice he kindly helped us put together a very professional sounding package. He dealt with us as no doubt he dealt with big stations - it made us feel very special. His help and advice was priceless. He even sent his personal recipe for Buffalo Wings! Our thoughts go to his close friends and loved ones. RIP Ben - you will be missed.

To Noreen and Ben's extended family...I am shocked and saddened to hear of Ben's passing...I just talked with him this past week about the jingle packages he was working on for our two new stations and can't believe that he's no longer with us. Ben was talented, creative, a storehouse of radio history and funny--we're all going to miss him.

Dear Noreen, Josh, Jessica & Benj, please can I add my heartfelt condolences for your great loss. I know that Ben was battling on, hoping for the best. Yet I am glad he was able to do what he loved doing best, right up until the end. I know that no matter how much you may have braced yourself for this possible outcome, we are just not able to prepare for what follows. May time help heal your pain, but meanwhile I have a strong faith in the resurrection, which means we will be able to be with those we have loved and lost, once again one fine day. May that prove true for all of us.

When the word reached me (and other Jinglemad Forum members) there was a steady stream of member stories about Ben and his past ventures. We all had something that Ben had made! And, to the family, it is "these" little things that will live forever, these clips, bits of sound, that play hour after hour around the entire world, made by Ben.
God has a special task for him now.
