Benjamin Gurley Obituary

Published by Legacy on Feb. 22, 2026.
It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Benjamin Fowler Gurley, who left this world far too soon on February 19, 2026, as a result of an automobile accident on I-64 E, near Beckley, West Virginia.

Born on January 4, 1981, in the charming town of Whiteville, Columbus County, North Carolina. His family moved to White Sulphur Springs in June of 1987. Benjamin was the cherished son of Rev. Ben E. Gurley and Sue Fowler Gurley. His life, though tragically brief, was filled with love, laughter, and a genuine spirit of kindness that touched everyone he met.

Benjamin's life was a testament to the values instilled in him by his loving parents. He grew up in a nurturing environment that emphasized the importance of community, compassion, and family. A proud graduate of Greenbrier East High School in 1999, Benjamin continued his education and earned an Associate of Science degree in 2006 from Bluefield State College paving the way for a fulfilling career.

For many years, Benjamin dedicated himself to his work at Hearth and Home in Lewisburg, West Virginia as Sales Manager; at Greenbrier Motor in Fairlea, WV as a Sales Associate; and the Friendship Subaru Dealership in Beckley, West Virginia as a Sales Associate.

He was not only a valued colleague but also a friend to all. His time at the dealership was marked by his unwavering commitment to excellence and his remarkable ability to relate to others, always offering a smile and a helping hand.

Beyond his professional life, Benjamin was a man of many passions. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as fishing and gardening, often taking his family on memorable trips to Blue Bend for days filled with fishing and swimming. A devoted father, he cherished his role as an assistant coach for his son Landon's baseball and soccer teams, inspiring young athletes with his encouragement and enthusiasm.

Benjamin's legacy is carried forward by his two beloved children, Landon Benjamin Gurley and Maria Loren Gurley, and their mother, Alicia Houchins. He was a doting father who took immense pride in his children, always prioritizing their happiness and well-being.

Known for his friendly and well-mannered nature, Benjamin's warmth and generosity were evident in every aspect of his life. He was a man who found fulfillment in helping others, often going out of his way to lend a hand to those in need. His gentle spirit and genuine kindness left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

As we bid farewell to Benjamin Fowler Gurley, we do so with gratitude for the time we shared with him and the love he brought into our lives. Though his presence will be deeply missed, his spirit will forever remain in our hearts, guiding us with his unwavering example of love, kindness, and selflessness.

There will be no service at this time. A Memorial Service will be planned for a future date.

There is no better way to honor Benjamin's memory than by making a gift to minister to the needs of animals or each other.
