Benjamin Robert "Bob" Kolber, a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2024, in Scottsdale, Arizona. Born on February 22, 1940, in Brooklyn, New York, Bob touched the lives of family, friends, and colleagues with his friendship, loyalty, and wisdom. His 84 years were filled with laughter and generosity.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, to Harry and Ceil Kolber, Bob's journey began alongside his brother Stanley. He later attended Brandeis University on a basketball scholarship, where he studied anthropology. After graduation, he enjoyed a successful career, ultimately becoming Vice President at Lindenmeyr-Munroe Paper. Bob was respected for his professional acumen and loved for his humor and practical advice, truly embodying the phrase, "do the right thing... always."
In his personal life, Bob created a nurturing environment for his children in the Philadelphia suburbs with his first wife, Jan, the mother of Matthew and Rachel. He later shared a life with his wife, Marilyn, exploring various parts of the country together. No matter where they were, Bob was always present for his children offering guidance and joy. He welcomed his daughter-in-law, Leslie Blaus and son-in-law, Robert Terry into the family with open arms. His steady support extended to his grandchildren-Jacob, Averie, Isabella, and Samuel-whose lives he enriched with limitless love.
Bob shared many joyful moments with his siblings, Stanley Kolber and sister-in-law Christina Clayton, as well as his nieces and nephews-Pamela Zicca, William Kolber, Georgina Albert, Ari Kolber, Mark Greenwood, and Michael Greenwood-offering wise advice and generous support throughout their lives.
Bob's interests were diverse and rich. A dedicated athlete, he had a lifelong passion for golf, where he formed lasting friendships and engaged in friendly competition. more importantly, he forged long lasting friendships on the golf course making sure to 'needle' and praise others as needed. He also enjoyed creating unique dinners and discovering hidden gem restaurants to share meals with loved ones.
Those who knew him described Bob as funny, wise, and generous. His humor was sharp yet kind, and his perspective was both thoughtful and heartfelt. He was always the first to lend a helping hand, whether through his time, resources, or support. Despite facing challenges with bladder cancer, Bob demonstrated incredible strength and resilience. He faced his illness with courage while continuing to put others before himself. Additionally, he continued to have a sense of hope and make new friends until the very end. His nurses consistently said that Bob was funny, truthful, and, perhaps a bit stubborn... which they loved!
Bob leaves behind a legacy of kindness and laughter that will inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. While his passing leaves a void in the lives of many, his spirit lives on through cherished memories and the love he shared so freely.
