Uncle Ben served in WWII as a member of 5093 Joint Signal Company as a basic signal message sender clerk arriving on Oct. 20, 1944 for the Liberation of Leyte Island, Philippines. Sept. 11, 2019, Ben had a commemorative brick placed on The Veterans Walk of Honor at the National Museum of the Pacific War in Fredericksburg, TX. The brick was laid with pride in Section 11, Row 22. Although he was eligible for various medals, he chose not to apply nor talk about his time there. According to my mom, his sister Agnes Kopka Jock, he would not even talk about his experiences with his parents. His time there affected him tremendously. We his family are proud of his service to our country..
