With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Benjamin Munoz Sr., a man whose kindness, humor, and love left a lasting impact on everyone he met. Benjamin passed away peacefully on December 27, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on January 27, 1950, in Temple, TX, to Rosa (Lara) Munoz and Jesus Munoz, Benjamin was raised in a close-knit family alongside his siblings: Jesse, Pete Sr., Edward Sr., Antonia, Mary Esther, Rose, Paul, Adam Sr., Roy (Raul) Sr., and John Charles Sr. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Conrad.
Music was central to Benjamin’s life. He played in iconic bands such as Mike and the Royaltones, Blue Knights, Latin Glows, and Little Joe y la Familia. Later in life, he became a DJ, keeping his passion for music alive and sharing it with others. One of his cherished traditions was calling loved ones to sing “Happy Birthday,” a gesture that brought smiles and will be deeply missed.
Benjamin also spent over 20 years at Wilson Art, where his dedication and warmth made him a valued colleague and friend. At home, he was a devoted family man, creating joyful memories with heartfelt traditions.
He is survived by his children, Benjamin Munoz Jr., Laurie Munoz, Mark Mendiaz and Tiffany Turner; grandchildren, Ashley Welcelean, Ben Munoz III, Alyssa Munoz, Steven, Danielle, & Isabella Donoso, Danica & Phillip Salinas, Taylor Anzaldua, Fairyn & Feabie Mendiaz, Kaitlynn Goode, and Kassidy & Karly Turner, great-grandchildren, Mia & Luca Welcelean, Jude & Jonas Donoso, Avery Munoz-Donoso, Amare & Jada Ray, Jhersi Jackson, Leyla Jimenez, Jaxson & Asher Anzaldua and Haidon Scott.
Benjamin was the heart of his family – a confidant, listener, advice-giver, secret-keeper, and the ultimate source of unconditional love. His adventurous spirit and generous heart will remain with all who knew him.
A memorial for Benjamin will be held at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home, 500 W Barton Ave, Temple, TX on Friday, January 10, 2025, at 10:00 am. A Celebration of Life will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2109 W Ave H, Temple, TX on Friday, January 10, 2025, at 1 pm, following the services. The family asks for prayers and support during this time.
Rest peacefully, Benjamin Munoz Sr. Your light and legacy will live on in the hearts of all who loved you.
