Roberto Muñoz, Sr., a proud Texan, U.S. Marine, and retired Foreign Service Officer, passed away last week, just shy of his 90th birthday.

Born in Tornillo, Texas, Roberto honored his Mexican-American roots throughout a life of service and dedication. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps as an embassy guard, reaching the rank of Sergeant, and later spent 20 years with the U.S. State Department, with postings in Paraguay, Turkey, Spain, and Guyana.

While stationed in Benghazi, Libya, he met his wife, Gloria, an embassy cryptographer. They built a loving life together, raising four children-Donna (born in Texas), Roberto Jr., Patricia, and Theresa-while living around the world.

Bob was known for his humor, storytelling, generosity, deep Catholic faith, and lifelong love of sports, especially women's athletics. After retiring, he and Gloria settled in Alexandria, Virginia.

Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife Gloria and his sister Apolonia and is survived by his beloved children-Donna, Roberto Jr., Patricia, and Theresa; his siblings Theodora, Cleotilde, Alfredo , Maria Teressa, Gloria, and Loretta; his grandchildren-Gregorio, Michelle, Darius, Madeline, Isabel, and Nikolai; and his great-granddaughter, Leila. Roberto will be remembered for his love of family, strong faith, and proud service to his country.
